Web Site Development FAQs

Is a website expensive to maintain?

Website hosting packages are getting cheaper. Many Internet Service Providers (ISP's) have reduced or held their prices for commercial packages in recent years whilst increasing the functionalilty and level of service on offer.

But surely getting a professionally designed website is going to be costly?

Not necessarily. All our potential clients are assessed on an individual basis and quotes are prepared accordingly. The quoted cost is based on factors like how large the finished site will be and how long it takes to develop.

I have no graphics or logo for the site, can you provide them?

Yes. We provide a basic graphic design service and can create logo's and images for use in your site. As you might expect there would be an additional charge for this service.

Once the site is developed will I have access to the source code for the site?

Yes. We provide all clients with a copy of all the source code and images that are used in their site when we are finished development on the site. Clients are then free to choose who subsequently maintains the site.

What would an average site cost?

A small site with 6 or 7 linked pages (with logo's, pictures, backgrounds etc.) could cost between 500 and 750 euro (The main costs being related to the amount of content there is for each section and how much time is required to prepare the graphics).

Does Green Coat Software host websites?

No. We recommend use of a US based ISP who offer a value for money hosting service which can be tailored for your needs. A typical site would cost around 100 euro p.a., including e-mail forwarding, your own domain name (e.g. www.yourcompany.com), site statistics, sufficient web space for your needs and an chatroom like online based help system to answer any questions.

What if I already have signed up with a hosting company but still need a website created or maintained?

We are happy to work with a hosting company of your choice.

Once the site is created and hosted how would it be updated?

There are a number options available:

  1. We can hand over total control to your organisation who will be responsible in-house for maintaining the site.
  2. You can implement minor changes in-house and get any major additions/changes made by Green Coat Software as and when requested.
  3. We can take full responsibility for all changes to the site, with changes being e-mailed/faxed through as and when required.

Each site comes with a one on one tutorial which teaches the basics of maintaining your site using the hosting companies' software. We aim to create relatively easy to maintain sites.

What are the typical annual costs associated with having a Web site?

There are a number of costs associated with having a Web site:

  1. The annual fee for holding the sites domain name i.e. www.yourcompany.com) (typically < 20 euro per annum for a dot com).
  2. The annual fee for the company that hosts your website (typically < 100 euro per annum).
  3. The annual site maintenance fee if you don't want to look after the site and content yourself (typically < 150 euro per annum).
